Town of Brewster Integrated Water Resource Management Plan

David Bennett currently serves as the secretary to the Comprehensive Water Planning Committee (CWPC).  The Committee recently presented the first in a series of public hearings on their Integrated Water Resource Management Plan (IWRMP) to the Town of Brewster on June 3, 2010.  The goal of the Plan is to develop a long-term program for the protection and/or restoration of our groundwater and surface water resources.  This Plan will further serve to develop a program to manage drinking water, wastewater and stormwater to meet the future needs of the community.  Please click on the following link to view the IWRMP directly: Integrated Water Resource Management Plan (June 3, 2010)

Third Party Inspector

Are you an owner or operator of an underground storage tank (UST)? If so, please note that the Dept. of Fire Services, Office of the State Fire Marshal's Office has recently amended the governing UST regulations [527. CRM 9.00] requiring all USTs to be inspected by a certified Third Party Inspector prior to August 8, 2010 and once every three years thereafter, as well upon the completion of a new or replacement installation.  BEA was recently certified as a Third Party Inspector and would be pleased to provide Inspector services on demand and/or further review these regulations with you including those tanks which are considered exempt.  Please feel free to contact us directly at our office or via our website to speak to a team advocate. Refer to the attached links for additional information: Notification to UST Owner/Operators June 2009, Fact Sheet, Frequently Asked Questions, Third Party Inspection Report Form-289, 527 CMR 9.00, Revisions to 527 CMR 9.00.

Due Diligence Roadshow

BEA has developed a Due Diligence roadshow which has been presented to various financial institutions and municipal agents.  The presentation focuses on the Phase I Environmental Site Assessment as governed by ASTM E1527-05 and provides examples of what environmental professionals look for in these investigations.  We are currently developing an MCP-related presentation as well.  If you have interest in BEA providing such a presentation to you and your colleagues please contact us directly.

Municipal Plumbing Inspector

"I found your (Due Diligence) presentation very informative and (it) will be helpful out in the field. Your time and offer to host such an event is a credit to Bennett Environmental, and is appreciated in our related trades and professions.  I will be sure to contact Bennett for any environmental services I may require."

Brewster in Bloom

BEA teamed with Brewster Community Solar Garden and My Generation Energy, Inc. to build a "solar garden" float for participation in the Brewster in Bloom Parade on May 2, 2010.  Our staff and families, along with members of My Generation Energy handed out more than 40lbs of candy to the enthusiastic parade go-ers....and we ran out before making it to the end!  The kids were then put to work demonstrating their gymnastic skills for the crowd.

REDUCE

We can reduce our garbage by making smarter choices BEFORE we consume items.  This is known as "precycling".  When shopping try not to buy items you will only use once and then throw away (i.e. buy rechargeable batteries vs. standard batteries, use cloth towels vs. paper towels).

Don't buy things that can't be recycled when there is a choice.

Some suggestions:

  • Buy things made of recycled materials
  • Buy items that are not overly packaged
  • Buy unpackaged items when you can (buy loose vegetables rather than those that are packaged)
