Geotechnical and Hydrogeologic Services:

Many projects, including multi-family housing, commercial enterprises, public water supply development and regional planning require a detailed understanding of the types of soils, and underlying sediments, present at a property. Knowledge of subsurface geologic conditions and site-specific hydrogeology is integral to develop a site in an economical and environmentally responsible manner. BENNETT ENVIRONMENTAL ASSOCIATES, INC.'s (BEA's) staff of professional geologists and licensed Soil Evaluators establishes the appropriate use and limitations of soils through qualitative field-testing and laboratory analysis.  This geotechnical work includes load bearing analysis of soils for foundation designs, suitability analysis for drainage, grading and stormwater management.

Our staff of geologists and hydrogeologists also conduct subsurface mapping towards coastal geology applications and environmental permitting. Detailed soil mapping of bedding, texture and grain size distribution are used to establish depositional environments for determination of coastal and inland resources and coastal features of erosion and accretion. Our geologists’ expertise and testimony, as backed by physical testing, are used to establish the presence of conservancy soils and identify sedimentary environments such as Barrier Beach, Coastal Bank, Marsh, Swamp and Land Subject to Flooding resource areas as defined under the Wetlands Protection Act and local Conservation Commission by-laws. This information is used in beach nourishment, dune compatibility evaluations and in the filing of Notice of Intents and MEPA applications.
